What is interesting is that at least 12,638 signed up between 1 Jan and 17 Jan 2009.

While our method of discovery of Irish Tweeters might lend itself to better discovering more recent sign-ups, it is very unlikely that this would explain away the exponential shape of the graphs below.

Again it is important to note that this is NOT the number of Irish Tweeters. It is the number that we have found - there could be many more inactive/dormant or unconnected tweeters. Therefore it cannot be compared with other statistics, such as Facebook’s, which includes inactive/dormant and test accounts.

Finally, the most recent quarter’s figures was calculated up to 17 March - almost 2 weeks short of a full quarter.

Here’s the result. I’m not sure if there are any surprises here. I would have thought there would be a peak around 6pm - 7pm, but this chart does not follow the usual peaks you might find on a website that has traffic from US and Europe since all tweets are Irish. The surprise for me is that people are busy tweeting right up to midnight.

A few thoughts struck me about this one:
1. If the person tweets a lot are they tweeting to just a handful of friends or a wide range of people. It would nice to have a fix on this.
2. Is there any correlation between number of tweets and age.

So should you worry if you see yourself on this list? I don’t know, but maybe you’d want to think about it.

It is notable that Irish media (particularly radio) personalities are not only becoming popular on Twitter, but are in fact increasing the rate of adoption of Twitter itself (more stats on this on Monday).

It’s only Wednesday and already the cluster of posts for this week’s Tuesday Push, MyMunster.com, is up and running here:http://www.irishblogs.ie/theme/mymunster/.

Of course Munster is the province that best taps into the emotion of its fans. With passion coursing through their veins, sometimes it seems like it might be Munster first and Ireland second.

MyMunster has a nice blog here: http://blog.mymunster.com/ which covers the Irish team as well as Munster rugby news. They also have a Twitter account here: http://twitter.com/MyMunster.

According to the website, “MyMunster.com is the website to chat with Munster Rugby supporters. Join up to discover new friends. On mymunster.com you can discuss matches, enter competitions, and check out our library of cool Munster rugby photos and videos.”

I wonder would the site do better if they opened up their forum to non signed-up users? In anycase I tried to sign-up and got bounced from the sign-up page - hopefully I will get an email allowing me to sign-up.

UPDATE: It seems my account sign-up worked. The site has discussion area and spot for photos and videos. You can add friends and you will get an email notification if someone messages you - which helps in getting people back to the site. Seems to be a surge in activity following the Tuesday Push. Some Leinster supporters lurking…

Popular web lore, or “blore” as it is known, is that the idea was the brainchild of the blogfather, Damien Mulley, way back in 2008, when Web 2.0 hadn’t reached 2.2.1 as it has now (we are now at the point where someone is about to suggest Web 1.0 is the new Web 3.0 and others are going to burn their computers as ecologically safe as possible).

Enough gibberish. What is Tuesday Push? It is where, each Tuesday, one Irish web start-up is selected to be promoted by the Irish start-up community (although it spreading amongst the wider Irish blogging community) by doing a blog post and using the various social media to draw attention to the product/service/application. Personally I think it is necessary since these Irish start-ups are competing with firms emerging from Silicon Valley where the community there gives support in the form of experience, funding, partnerships and promotion, to the local start-up community.
